LTD Jazz Combo

The LTD Jazz Combo is made up of southwest Michigan area jazz musicians that are flexible enough to provide background entertainment, accompany a guest artist, or perform as a concert headliner. The group performs jazz standards and classics including swing tunes, bossas, ballads, and popular jazz tunes. They can cross over to smooth jazz, Motown, R&B, and pop music as well, always with a hint of jazz influence.

The members include Steve Kamerling on vocals and guitar, Tim King on saxes, Chuck Hartzell on drums, and Robert Murray on basses. Besides performing with LTD Jazz Combo, all the musicians perform regularly with other local groups including the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band, Blue Shoes, Jazzmin II, Jim Cooper, LMC Faculty Jazz, Ed Bagatini Groups, The Old Moonlighters, Otsego Jazz Ensemble, Friends Jazz Trio, Four Spacious Guys, Cardinal Number, J.R. Clark, Brian Lubeck, and All In Love, Lana Hoffman, KSO Concertmaster Dr. Barry Ross, OFB3, International Opera Star Susan B. Anthony, Ken Morgan, Earlie Braggs, John Wegge, John Chamberlin, Pieces of Dreams, and Unleashed.

Born in Chicago, IL, Steve Kamerling has been playing music since he fell in love with the guitar when he was 10 years old. While living in Chicago, he studied for several years under the tutelage of Mike Conforti and Dr. Edward Myers. He credits these mentors with opening a world of musical possibilities to him through positively encouraging the enhancement of his musical capabilities. This experience guided him to learning more about music and, because of this, his love affair extended to the bass. Steve is a regular performer at the Tasting Room Lounge in Webster’s Prime, and has been a regular performer at the Gull Lake Country Club, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra League, Fontana Chamber Arts Galas, The Wine Loft, Winston’s, and the Beacon Club.

Bob Murray is a bassist playing both acoustic and electric bass in Southwest Michigan. He’s been playing bass with various groups since high school rock bands in rock, blues, jazz and bluegrass groups.  Bob has studied with noted bass player, Dave LaRocca in Pittsburgh and Tom Knific at Western Michigan University along with jazz theory with well known pianist, Bob Doak in Pittsburgh.  Recently, Bob has played all over Michigan and surrounding states with jazz big bands and smaller groups.  He has performed with various artists in the Ann Arbor area and Southwest Michigan including Jerry McKenzie (Stan Kenton), Terry Lower, Keith Hall and Steve Kamerling.  Bob currently plays bass with the Otsego Jazz Ensemble, the Ambassadors Big Band (Ann Arbor), Up the Creek Dixieland Band and the LTD Jazz Combo.
